It's the third installment of the Insidious franchise starring Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert who has lost his wife Renai to a supernatural entity called Elise who possess the Lambert family home. This film is the first installment of the franchise to feature Elise. On March 2012 it was reported that James Wan was in talks with Sony Pictures to make Insidious Chapter 3. The film was confirmed by various sources including "Entertainment Weekly" by Ryan W. Bradley, the editor-in-chief of the publication. Bradley claimed that Wan, along with Leigh Whannell, who co-wrote Insidious Chapter 2, are inclined to write a third installment for Sony's "supernatural horror" series. "Insidious Chapter 3" is directed by James Wan, who directed the first two films in the franchise. The film's plot is similar to that of its two predecessors, which follows family members who are terrorized by a supernatural force. Mary Ellen Trainor, who worked on "Insidious Chapter 2", reprises her role as Nadia. Michael Blum, who played Josh's son Caleb in "Insidious Chapter 2", had originally been offered the same role in "Insidious Chapter 3" before being replaced by Ty Simpkins. Principal photography began in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9, 2013 and wrapped up on April 2, 2013. The film's teaser trailer was attached with "The Purge" and released online on August 15, 2013. The trailer was later released online on October 25, 2012. Its television spot aired during the telecast of the 85th Academy Awards. "Insidious Chapter 3" had its red carpet world premiere at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on March 28, 2014 and also screened during South by Southwest on March 14–17, 2014. It was released in the United States and Canada on April 3, 2014. The film received generally positive reviews with critics praising Leigh Whannell's screenplay. "Collider" awarded the film a rating of 4/5 stars, calling it "an outstanding follow-up to one of the scariest horror films of the last decade."
